Arise and Eat, Else the Journey Will Be Too Great for You.” (I Kings 19:7)

TRAVELING CHALICE/VOCATION THOUGHTS

TRAVELING CHALICE reflection: ". . .thank you for our chance to experience the Traveling Chalice and its purpose. . .an important few do the lion's share of the work which is so vital to keeping our Catholic church running well. . .our prayer is that many others would be inspired to become servants of our God, to become priests, brothers and sisters to lead and do the many works of our faith . . .in Jesus' name we pray."

This week Greg and Sarah Walz lead the parish's prayer for religious vocations by hosting the Traveling Chalice.

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY USA is observed this weekend in all Catholic parishes.  All people baptized into Christ's life are called to humble service of God's people.  Today in particular, we pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to inspire priests to humble service, and to inspire more men to answer the call to priesthood.  The very few who have violated the sacred trust given them by ordination as apostles today for Jesus Christ have hurt, violated and discouraged the faith of many.  Let us pray that we not only support and pray for those so affected, but that we also follow the absolute Gospel forgiveness example of the Amish people of Pennsylvania in our understanding of all those who hurt, violate, discourage and kill spiritually and physically.  Mutual blame, accusation and condemnation only escalate evil and breed more of it; forgiveness begins healing and peace.  We must pray that we all begin to forgive, so we can contribute to the healing and peace that individuals, nations and our world are so in need of.

On Wednesday, November 1, we honor ALL SAINTS day as a HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION.  Masses at 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. that day give us the rare opportunity to remember those who have set the standard and the possibility of holiness for us, our patron saints, our grandmothers and parents, and many other heroes of our faith.  Take time for Mass that day to invite their spirit into your lives.

Thursday, November 2, is ALL SOULS day.  The daily 5:30 p.m. Mass that day offers us the opportunity to gather in prayerful memory of our beloved deceased, especially those from our parish community who have died in the past year.
