Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 22, 2006

Last year was the first year of the Archdiocesan program, Virtus Protecting God’s Children.  All parents needed to be background checked if they were going to be volunteering in our school.  That procedure is continuing this year and for the years to come.  The second step of this program is for all school volunteers to attend the required training that all staff members received at the beginning of last year.  Each of these steps has strict rules of compliance and exact timelines that must be followed.  It is now time to train all school volunteers in the Virtus Program.  In order to accommodate more people, the 3 hour training session will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9:00 to 12:00 and on Wed., Nov. 15, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m..   Anyone who wants to volunteer at the school in any capacity must receive this free training.  This is mandated by the Archdiocese and all Catholic parishes must comply with these guidelines.  If you cannot attend either session, there are training sessions all over the Archdiocese and the school office can give you other dates and times.  We must receive confirmation from the Archdiocese that you have been trained in order to allow you to volunteer.  We all must do whatever we can to ensure that children are safe while they are in our care.  Thank you.

Dear Parents of Children Attending Wednesday Evening Classes,
I am writing to clarify my expectations about the
children drop off and pick up procedure on Wednesday evening.  Parents park in the parking lot between Father’s house and the church.  Parents bring their child or children into the community room. The children gather there for a few minutes before their teacher brings his/her class to the place where they have class.  At 7:37 the teachers bring the children back to the community room.  Teachers will dismiss your child back to you in the community room only. Please do not ask your child to come out to you in a parked car.  This procedure is to keep the children extra safe.  In the dark, kids running between cars that are pulling out is dangerous.
Thank you for your cooperation.Margaret Stimmler

Jesus teaches us to follow the example of the poor widow and give not from what we can spare, but from what we need. The St. John’s Treasure is NOW. Please be generous in your pledge.

Join us tonight, Sunday, October 22nd, for a meeting for all current 9th–12th graders who might be interested in the 2007 mission trip. Fundraisers begin in November and early-bird registration is due in December so it’s not too early to be planning! The meeting will be from 7:15-8:30 PM in Leo’s Den at St. John’s. Parents are welcome. This is just an interest meeting so come even if you are unsure about participating!
All 7th - 12th graders and parishioners are welcome!  On Saturday, October 28th, we will have our annual Leaf Raking Service Project.  Participants can meet in Leo's Den at St. John's at 8:30AM.  We will rake until 12:30PM.   We will head back to the youth room for optional pizza and games until 2PM.  There is no cost to this event but permission slips are still required.  Adult volunteers are needed.  Contact the youth office if either youth or adults are interested in helping with this service event.
On Sunday, October 29th there will be a retreat planning meeting for 10th - 12th graders and adults who are interested in helping in any way.  Retreats will take place in January and February but planning is needed now.  All are welcome.  The meeting will take place at St. Joe's at 7:15PM.  Contact the youth office if you have any questions.
