WELCOME TO ALL AND CONTINUED JOYFUL EASTER GREETINGS

The big news of course is the appointment by the Holy Father of Bishop John Nienstedt as “coadjutor” bishop to Archbishop Flynn.  This appointment means that Bishop Nienstedt will move to our Archdiocese from New Ulm soon; he will have the title “Coadjutor Archbishop”; he will shadow Archbishop Flynn for about a year and also become familiar with our archdiocese, its customs, history, parishes, priests, church leaders and ministers, people, problems and

attempts to deal with those.  At some point, he may want to return to New Ulm!  (Just kidding!)  About this time next year, he will become the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis; that will be when Archbishop Flynn's retirement resignation is accepted and finalized by the Holy Father.  Bishop Nienstedt and each one of us needs the prayers, understanding and support of the other as our Archdiocese enters into a rather significant new era with his leadership.  With the mixed

reviews this appointment has received, good prayer and good communication with each other is essential.  Let us begin with prayer now.

This Sunday, the Church calls her people around the world to pray for vocations to leadership in the church.  It is WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS.  We know the church is suffering already with a significant drop in vocations to the priesthood and religious life (religious sisters and brothers); new ministries have come forth in the church and wonderful, faithful and effective ministers to them have also developed.  With that bad news and good news, we pray that we be inspired and creative in our prayer and in our work in the church for religious and lay ministers to continue to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the whole world and every aspect of it.

NEXT WEEKEND is Mother’s Day.  But also, next week “Called by Name” cards will be in the pews for anyone to take.  We hope all will take one or two.  Then please reflect on people from your family, our parish or your friendship/work circle who just might be good candidates to a religious vocation.  You are invited to return those cards to the parish (mail or collection basket) and they will be forwarded to the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese.  A priest or brother or sister from that office will contact those persons to invite them to meet and talk about that possibility.  Your prayer and suggestions may result in someone’s happiness and fulfillment as well as in a solution to a significant problem.  Worth a try!?  Sign-ups will be solicited next week as well as for The Traveling Chalice kit.  You may host this kit for a week and use it for reflection, discussion and prayer in your family around vocations.  Our thanks to the parish Vocations

Committee for these projects.

LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR CHILDREN is over for the summer.  Thanks is due to Cathy Rudd, Sharon Schimetz, Maggie Sedoff, and Barb Shimshock for the time and creative energy they have put into bringing the Word of God to our young ones this past year.  This special effort for our children will resume in the fall—BUT a Liturgy of the Word for Children may be the homily at the 10:00 am Mass at times this summer.

Also, Mary Anne Roberts has “retired” from being the Sunday School Coordinator for the last eight years.  She has put her heart and soul, love and faith, creativity and energy into that significant program.  Parents of those pre-school

children know the quality of formation that she has provided.  And so do we.

Thanks and God's blessings on you, Mary Anne.          —Father Ralph
