YOU ARE WELCOME!
It was an almost perfect weekend for the parish Plant Sale. Good salespeople, good PR, good weather and good customers all combined to make this annual event a very successful one for parish community and fund-raising. Thanks to all who bought, but special thanks to Mary Beeson Rivers and family and Amy Tickle Bird for all the work in preparation as well as on the weekend. (Mary follows her mother Janet's example and dedication; Janet should be proud that it has taken at least two people to take her place—and she's still there helping.)
From the Vocations Committee: The Traveling Chalice kit will be hosted by Mike and Amy Tomsche and family beginning this weekend. They will lead our parish community in reflection, discussion and prayer for religious and ordained leadership in our church. Families and individuals are invited to host the kit for a week at a time. We are scheduling the last week of May and the weeks of June at this time. The kit provides a “centerpiece” of a chalice and an altar picture, as well as prayer and discussion ideas for those who can gather around it once, twice or more times during the week. Call Father Goman at the Parish Office to reserve your week. —Father Ralph |

History of the Paschal Candle It was once customary to extinguish the Paschal candle after the reading of the Gospel on the solemnity of the Ascension to signify that the risen Christ had left earth to ascend to “sit at the right hand of the Father.” The apostles, disciples, and future followers of Christ were to wait for his presence at the end of time. However, now the Paschal candle is kept in the sanctuary until the end of Pentecost Sunday, the official, liturgical end of the Easter season. The continued presence of the lit Paschal candle until Pentecost makes it clear that it is Christ, whose presence the candle signifies, who bestows the Spirit. |

The Money Counter’s Prayer Blessed is the parishioner...who uses his numbered envelope, who writes the amount in the correct box, seals the envelope without Scotch tape and staples. It makes our work easier. Amen! |
