YOU ARE WELCOME AS WE GATHER IN WORSHIP AND PRAYER Teachers and parents know that their children and students know the exact number of days left until school is over. Our parish celebrations of CONFIRMATION and FIRST HOLY COMMUNION are complete—the number of school days left is now the major topic! However, let parents especially know the blessing given them at the Baptism of their children: “you are the first teachers of your children in the ways of faith; may you also be the best of teachers. . .” The nature of childhood requires leadership, inspiration, guidance and faithful witness from parents and all adults. In their class preparation for the Sacraments, the First Communion and Confirmation students learn about the meaning of the Sacrament and their commitment. It is clear to all that that learning has to begin and continue in family life. Prayer together as a family, Bible reading and discussion about the stories of Jesus, faithful Sunday Mass attendance as a regular and normal part of family life, conversation after Mass about what each one liked or remembered from the Mass celebration—these are easy ways to continue the formation of our youth into a deeper and wonderful relationship with God through Jesus in our church. Blessings on each one of the families with First Communion and Confirmation children.
PLAN AHEAD: Father Tom Hunstiger will celebrate the Masses on the weekend of May 19-20. He represents CROSS International Catholic Outreach. He will not take up a collection, but he will inform us and distribute news about what Cross International is about. Basically, their purpose is to encourage parishes to help end the poverty and hunger in “the poorest of the poor” overseas areas. We welcome him.
On Sunday, May 20, the parish will honor Mona Faulkner, who has served us generously and effectively in developing our school and being our principal during the last four years. At the same time, the new principal, Sister Patricia Beckman, will be introduced. Both will be recognized at the 10:00 am Mass and at a reception following in the Community Room. We are a grateful and a welcoming parish and school community, so I know all will take this opportunity to recognize these two women so important to our parish mission.
We rejoice with our Youth Director, ROBYN MAGALSKA, who will marry Dan Liebl next weekend. Our prayers are with them. Congratulations, Dan and Robyn!
P.S. ALTAR SERVERS: Some tickets remain for the Monday, May 28, Minnesota Twins vs. the Chicago White Sox game at 1:10 pm. Each server is eligible for one ticket, plus one for an adult family member for each family. Call the parish office today to get your gift tickets! —Father Ralph |
