WELCOME TO ALL ON THIS DAY OF THE LORD

Schedules for Lent abound around here, and I know you have received at least one of them.  However, “we” tend to put things off.  So, may I remind you to plan ahead for some events that are most wonderful and helpful for our salvation:  The Sacrament of Confession/Reconciliation.  Confession is good for the soul. It is an experience of freeing oneself from sin and guilt.  The one who is aware of sin comes before God and before one who speaks for God (the priest) and empties himself/herself of the guilt and at once hears and receives the forgiveness of God.  This Sacrament is offered here on Saturdays at 8:45 a.m., in the Communal Penance Service on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m., and at two special times for your convenience, Wednesday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m.  Plan ahead.

Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday are really one celebration of the Mass Jesus has given us:  The Eucharist from the Last Supper of Holy Thursday, the perfect Sacrifice of Jesus to the Father in the Good Friday commendation of the death of Jesus on the cross, and the new life promised us in the Resurrection of Jesus celebrated at the Holy Saturday Vigil Mass (and on Easter Sunday).  The Holy Week services call for our presence and are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. (8:00 p.m. on Holy Saturday) again for your convenience.  Plan ahead.

As a family community, we begin those three days (the Triduum) with a pot luck supper on Holy Thursday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room.  Let us all enter this most holy week together.               —Father Ralph

P. S.  Did you notice the new lighting for the Stations of the Cross?  An anonymous donor made it possible to light this important area of the church that provided very dim light for a very significant part of our faith.  Many thanks from all of us to that party.  Now, perhaps another donor or a few together may make it possible to put a motor under the Baptismal Font so the water can be running water, a sign of the "living water" that it is.  Originally there was a natural drain to the earth under the Font; however, the earth is so packed there now that the drain backs up very quickly and so we cannot run the Font in the way it was designed.  Constructing an electrical line and a motor is a little pricey—close to $4000.  A donor or donors could be anonymous—or they don't have to be!

Text Box: A Special Thank You
to Deacon Jim & Char Murphy ...
for their ministry and prayers, thoughts, care, concern and support during our beloved Mary’s illness and passing. They are truly a dynamic duo and a tremendous asset to our faith community at St. John’s.
Thank you,, Jim Madson & Family
