WELCOME, AND BLESSINGS ON YOUR LENTEN JOURNEY The barren fig tree (it is curious that the tree was barren for three years—the same as the public ministry of Jesus; how many did not heed His message then?) is given a second chance by a tolerant gardener. A clear and challenging message for all of us on our journey of purifying and rededication to God during this time of Lent. Next weekend is the FEAST of ST. JOSEPH. It is rare and unusual that the Sundays of Lent are replaced by a feast. Joseph is the loved and loving father of Jesus and husband of Mary. His presence in the Holy Family is not widely described. But when it is, he is a powerful and caring head of that family. Therefore, he is a saint of our tradition who is held with great reverence and love by many people and by many nations. We honor him at the beginning of that fourth week of Lent because we know his subtle but very real modeling and leadership for us as well as for the Holy Family. PLAN AHEAD: • Schedule yourself and your family/friends for THE WIZARD OF OZ. Our school play, at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, is always a highlight of the school year for our students and for all their families and friends and parishioners as well. How to reserve your tickets is described elsewhere in the bulletin. • Also, schedule yourself for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession), at one of the many times the Sacrament is scheduled here at the parish or at our neighboring churches. The Lenten Penance Service (prayer service with private confessions, with many priests available) is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, 7:00 pm. Our diocesan pastor, Archbishop Harry Flynn, will lead us in the prayer service that night. • Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 1 weekend. Holy Thursday, Good Friday (both at 7:30 pm) and the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil and Mass (at 8:00 p.m.) that week comprise one wonderful celebration-remembrance of our salvation. They are family celebrations for your family and for our whole parish family. —Father Ralph

Minnesota Catholic Health Care Directive Now Available To assist Catholics of Minnesota who wish to have an advance directive, the Minnesota Catholic Conference, comprised of the Minnesota Catholic Bishops, has prepared a Catholic Health Care Directive that meets the state’s legal requirements. The Health Care Directive reflects the Church’s teaching as well as recommendations of church, health care, and community leaders.
The Conference has also prepared a guide to answer some basic questions about the law, church teaching, and completing a health care directive. These documents are available at the Minnesota Catholic Conference (MCC) website—www.mncc.org. If you prefer, copies of the two documents are also available from the MCC office by calling 651-227-8777. |
