Summer Missionary Visit

Weekend Masses of July 7 and 8

It is summer, and for most Catholic parishes that means a summer missionary visit.  On  July 7 and 8, a priest representing the Diocese of Butare, Rwanda, Africa, will celebrate the Masses and ask our prayer and financial support for the emerging Catholic Church in that part of Africa.  Like St. Therese the Little Flower, most of us will never be able to expand the faith of Jesus Christ in foreign lands; but, like her, our prayer and support of the mission work of the Church makes a significant addition to the commission that Jesus has given us all.

Be present and be generous!

Stewardship-Opportunity Outreach

“Youth Ministry Mission Trip” is the June Recipient!

This year, members from our Sr. High Youth Ministry program will be attending their 7th annual summer mission trip.  They will be traveling to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from July 7 to July 14.

Participants work with Catholic Heart Workcamp, however they do not receive their working assignments until they arrive.  Past experiences had students working in homes of low-income and disabled elderly doing yard work, building wheelchair ramps, painting, repairing rotted floors or ceilings, etc.  Other service projects have included work at low-income daycares, food shelves, group homes and camps for the mentally or physically disabled. But the week is not all work!  Their evenings are spent in a program entailing prayer, music, games, Catholic speakers, Mass, reconciliation and more throughout the week.  Please be assured that these students also do various service works right our own community such as Fall Leaf Raking for parishioners, Feed My Starving Children, Life-Care Center, to name a few, but their experience traveling and meeting other students across the U.S. is invaluable.

Catholic Heart Workcamp’s Mission Statement is:  to empower participants to live as Disciples of Christ through serving others and to foster the spiritual growth of each participant through the Sacraments, Catholic faith, sharing and prayer.

For this service, the students pay a registration fee averaging $300 which does not include transportation, gasoline or chaperone costs, which can cost upward of $5,000. They really need our help. Please be generous.

Thank you kitchen helpers!  We had a wonderful group of ladies clean and reorganize our

Community Room kitchen this past week and I want to thank them for giving of their time.  —Brook

FATHER DAVID SHANNON,

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at

St. Alphonsus Church on Wednesday, June 27,

at 7:00 p.m.  St. Alphonsus is in Brooklyn Center,
