CONGRATULATIONS FATHER GREGORY ABBOTT! Our parish rejoices with Father Abbott just ordained a priest on May 26. He is memorable to us because he spent his "deacon summer" assigned to our parish last summer. In that ministry, he visited many of the homebound and hospitalized, he assisted as deacon at Masses and gave interesting homilies, he learned the "ropes" of parish life by becoming acquainted with the details of maintenance, finances, personnel, school and education areas, enjoyed the summer mission trip with our Hopkins Youth Group, and became friends and acquaintances with many of us. In these ways, we helped him discern even more deeply the call to diocesan priesthood. We were privileged to be part of his formation and decision, and what an honor that is for us. He was likewise privileged to learn from a community that is rich in the love of God and of neighbor. We promise our prayers and support to him as he begins parish life in St. Michael, Minnesota. And those prayers begin this weekend as he leads us in a Mass of Thanksgiving at this weekend's Saturday Mass at 5:00 p.m., with a reception following in the Community Room. A high praise recommendation for a new priest from a veteran often reads: he is someone I can work and live with. That is our recommendation for Father Abbott, and that is my recommendation too. —Father Ralph
