A WARM WELCOME TO ALL Let me welcome new members of the Parish Pastoral Council, and introduce them to you: MARCELLUS MAYAKA and JOYCE MURUNGI. Joyce and Marcellus have been members of the parish for some years; they were married in their native country of Kenya, and now have a son, DeAndre, seven months old. Joyce has served as a teacher in the Faith Formation program. BOB and KARI McSHERRY likewise have been members of the parish a number of years, and have been active in the Sunday nursery as well as the contemporary music group. Sean and Renee Lynn are their two very young grade school-aged children. Both couples willingly and eagerly accepted the three year term to serve the parish and its pastor according to the mission statement of the parish and of the Council. They join Kristin Jamison (chair), Tony (co-chair) and Mary Shidla, Barb Shimshock and Kathy Nordaune who continue on the Council. Couples serve as one member. Esteban and Obdulia Gonzalez serve on the Council as well, representing the Hispanic community. Parish Council meetings are open, and generally held the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 7:00 p.m. in the School Meeting Room. As is our practice of many years, the new season will begin with a LEADERSHIP meeting of all Council and committee members, as well as parish staff, on Tuesday, September 11, 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. A facilitator will help us "launch" the new season of growth together. I, in particular, and all of us owe our gratitude and thanks to the two "retiring" members of the Council because they have served faithfully and with distinction for three years: Kay Davies and Steve Mages. Thank you, to both of you. The purpose of the Council is to represent the hopes and concerns of parishioners, as well as their insights and ideas -- all of which is offered for the continued growth in quality and quantity of our community of Roman Catholic faith. The pastor balances the deliberations of the Council with the insights of the parish staff and the Finance Council, and is delegated by the Archbishop to make decisions for the parish that will foster its growth in faith, and in faith in action. Both staff people and Council members serve as liaisons to the many committees of the parish that do ministry in the parish and in the community in the name of the parish. In that way, the whole faith community of St. John the Evangelist serves together for the common good of the parish, the wider community, and the Faith. Father Ralph
