WELCOME! WELCOME BACK! WELCOME AGAIN! WELCOME IF YOU ARE NEW HERE! Notice that HOPE and JUSTICE are themes that dominate today's celebration. These are two needs that are primary in the lives and in the faith of people today, perhaps more than ever before. The justice that is needed in our world in so many ways is possible for us to achieve. Justice flows from the virtue of hope. In a way, today's formation by the Word of God prepares us for Lent, only a week and a half away! Today we are formed in the virtues of hope and justice by the BEATITUDES from St. Luke in the Gospel of the day. Luke presents only four beatitudes! But he also presents four woes! A summary of these might be: Blessed are those who hope and trust in the Lord. We know that God does not abandon us ever, no matter what is happening in our life, or no matter what is not happening in our life.
Husband: Our marriage is a happy one. We always agree, especially on where we will go for vacation. She agrees to go west to the beaches—I agree to go north for the fishing! Happily and successfully married people know that “agreement” between them on the many family and marriage issues is essential, and often difficult. Successful and happily married couples find that listening to each other and being honest with each other, leads to shared agreements, decisions. They find growth in their own selves and in their marriage by such dialogue. This weekend is World Marriage Day, and we honor and bless marriages today. Couples, honor and bless each other today. Renew your love and your pledge of sharing your lives with each other always. We will honor and bless married couples at the Masses this weekend.
After the 10:00 a.m. Mass today, join the Liturgy Committee in the school cafeteria for Lenten Planning. We welcome and need your ideas about how we will move through the season of Lent into Easter. Lenten Stations, Lenten themes, Lenten intercessions, penitential rite at Masses and the Lenten Penance Service (which Archbishop Flynn will lead), Holy Thursday and the washing of the feet ceremony, the pot luck dinner, Good Friday and the veneration of the cross, Holy Saturday and the welcoming of new members into the Church, Easter Sunday—all these are the wonderful and exciting moments of Lent that we will pray about and plan details about at the planning session. Join us. —Father Ralph
