TRAVELING CHALICE/VOCATION THOUGHTS TRAVELING CHALICE Reflections: “While I was praying, I couldn’t help but think about all the possibilities for vocations: married life, single life, religious life. They all contribute different gifts to the community. My most fervent prayer is that all people in our parish will listen to God’s call about their true vocation. Because, when we are all doing what God calls us to do, we will be the most dedicated and enthusiastic community.” HOSTING the Traveling Chalice and leading our parish community in prayer for vocations this week are Mark and Pamela Van Ert and their daughters. —The Vocations Committee

ADVENT CONTINUES: On this 2nd Sunday of Advent, the Church refers us to one of our major companions of this season: John the Baptist. For the next two weeks, we travel with John and are reminded, as were the people to whom he preached, that the Lord is coming and we are entreated to make preparation for him. He is the One for whom we wait. Reflect on why we wait. We wait for the overwhelming presence and action of God to break into our lives and into our world once again. Our waiting is experienced in a world filled with the sin of immediacy and self-gratitude, with war, terrorism, and a growing lack of dignity of the human person. Our waiting has to be in prayer, in communion with the Savior already with us. Our waiting has to be an active waiting, listening to what God promises through the Savior, and working with that Savior to bring our waiting and the waiting of a needy world to its wonderful fulfillment, now and forever. —Father Goman |
