Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 20, 2006

Text Box: Hopkins Catholic Youth Ministry
Robyn Magalska, Director
Thank you! The 2006 summer youth mission group would like to thank our parishes for their generous support, most specifically with their 2nd Collections they took up for our benefit. We would like to do this by showing you some photos from our trip, some news clips and serving you refreshments after mass. We will be doing this at St. Joe’s on Sunday, August 27th after the 10:30 am Mass in the Social Hall and at St. John’s on Sunday, September 3rd after the 10am Mass in the Community Room. Please join us for one of these occasions to hear about our mission trip!
If you are looking for service hours or ways to help out your parish community, there are opportunities to do so at the St. John’s Rummage Sale on Saturday, September 9th and at the St. Joe Fall Festival on Sunday, September 17th. Students can help at either parish. Call to sign up or if you would like more information.
As we transition into the school year, like many other areas in parish life, the youth program is seeking new, dedicated adult volunteers. Many of our volunteers are heading back to college or have moved away so help is needed to make our program successful. Anyone 21 and older can help us in many ways and there is also need for young adults 18-20 years old. The amount of time given can be determined by your availability. Please call the youth office for more information about different ways you can help the youth in our parishes!

Dear Parishioners of St. John’s,

It was my great pleasure serving as your Business Administrator for those many years.  St. John’s was a second home to me, meeting and knowing such a great number of really swell folks.  Thank you for the wonderful send-off to retirement reception, the many good wish cards, the parish gift, but most of all the prayers that were offered for my future.

I will have you all in my prayers.

Thank you again, Carole Keehn

The people of St. John's parish express our gratitude to Lorraine Duffy.  She has chaired the Funeral Reception Committee for over 30 years! In doing so, she has provided our families and their relatives and friends with brunches, luncheons and evening receptions following the funeral Mass for a loved one.  White tablecloths, fresh flowers, china and silver were always used.  Her presentation of food, food she provided and food donated by parishioners was always beautifully served.  I join those who worked with her on that Committee and all the parish in extending our gratitude for her gift of thoughtful kindness at a most important time in peoples' lives.  Lorraine has "retired" from that position.  Janet Beeson and her faithful "group" continue to provide this important ministry with the same loving care. —Father Goman

Outreach Collection ICA

Weekend of August 26th & 27th at All Masses

ICA is building a new 10,000 sq. ft. facility to respond to the growing emergency food shelf needs of the residents of Hopkins, Minnetonka, Excelsior, Shorewood, Deephaven, Greenwood and Woodland Minnesota.
