WELCOME TO ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST TO ALL WHO GATHER ON THIS DAY OF THE LORD
Days are shorter and isn't that a reminder that summer is quickly ending? Events are picking up and isn't that a reminder that the school year will soon begin? Please put these important events on your family calendar, and I hope they are a priority for you as they are for me:
* Wednesday, August 23, 7:00 p.m. the LITURGY COMMITTEE will reconvene after a semester break. ALL who want to help with planning the Mass themes and the seasons (Advent, Christmas, etc.), who have ideas for ritual and music and decoration, who are willing to prepare for the Sunday Masses (e.g., preparing the Intercessions) please come to the Parish Library that night—and let's begin again! * Tuesday, Sept. 5, 6:30 p.m. ALL EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS meet with Father Goman and Rita Fox in Church * Tuesday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m. ALL USHER-GREETERS meet with Father Goman and Bernie Rottach in Church. * Thursday, Sept. 7, LEADERSHIP MEETING begins with 5:30 p.m. Mass for those who can attend (simple supper provided after); from 7:00–9:00 p.m., Sister Fran Donnelly of the Archdiocesan Ministry Office will speak. Parish Staff, Council members, chairs and committee members of our parish and of the Hispanic community are expected at this annual meeting to refresh our commitment and procedures in our ministries. * Sunday, Sept. 10, 7:00 p.m.: ALL parish ALTAR SERVERS (new, wanna-bees and veterans) meet in church for a brief update on serving procedures and then in the Community Room for some awards, Twins game tickets and ice cream treats (parent volunteers needed!). * Wednesday, Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m. in Church: ALL LECTORS meet with Father Goman and Patricia Kempf in church for our yearly update on the role and procedures for readers of the Word of God. * September 16-17, at all weekend Masses: welcome and blessing on all ministers and leaders of the parish.
"Well begun is half done" is an old saying and a very true one. Taking time for the above meetings means that we begin another year well prepared to offer quality and holy praise and service of God and of God's people. —Father Ralph
