WELCOME TO EVERYONE and a blessed Easter season to all:
We are all praying for the victims, students, families, faculty and all who are terrorized by the massacre at Virginia Tech. Our emotions of rage and shock will settle, and then what? Unfortunately, for most of us, life will go back to the “same old, same old”. Who isn’t “connecting the dots”? Why is the moral fabric of our culture and society degenerating to allow such horror? All of us can identify horrors that are as evil as this senseless act. Insensitivity, ignorance and inaction about the physical, mental and spiritual needs of too many people are rampant. Who isn’t “connecting the dots?: Parents who allow too much freedom for their young with computers, videos, cell phones, giving everything they want to keep them happy and not moody? Teens and young adults who tolerate their peers and friends “pushing the envelope” too far. or letting them disappear from their caring radar screen? The entertainment industry providing violence and sexual excesses and making those evils attractive and so available? Politicians who argue for their positions instead of ours? Counselors who counsel for freedom of expression without regard for discipline and values, without inserting the rights and dignity of others into the rights and dignity of the self. Certainly we are praying. But we must do more.—Father Ralph |

Opportunity Outreach Next week’s second collection will support missions here the United States. There are many places in America—Appalachia, the Deep South, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountain states—where the Catholic Church struggles to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. Some dioceses are short of priests, brothers, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. We will be taking up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal in our second collection next week to strengthen the Church at home. Please plan to give generously to assist Catholics in America. |
